Originally trained as an art historian and acrobat, Jad Dahshan is a Jordanian artist who works between drawing and tapestry-making. His practice is heavily based in research and draws from a variety of myths, alchemical concepts, textile traditions, modernist painters, and popular cartoons.
At the core of his work is the body, which he explores by way of the out-of-body: moments of dissociation between body and soul, mind, land, self, and more. He looks to myths of journeys between Earth and other realms, not as metaphors, but in search of a kind of psychic resonance that pierces through the layers of legend, history, and the everyday. His current project is a sort of medieval manuscript for the digital age, plumbing nightmares in the underbelly of the contemporary collective unconscious.
